Breast Reduction
ศัลยกรรมลดขนาดหน้าอก
Breast reduction surgery is surgery to reduce the size or shape of the breasts to make them smaller, which is ideal for patients who find their breasts too large or disproportionately uncomfortable. Patients will undergo a breast lift or breast reduction surgery to make their breasts smaller and more supported, resulting in a more balanced and beautiful appearance. This surgery is suitable for patients who desire a more proportional and comfortable breast size or for those who experience inconveniences such as shoulder, neck, and back pain resulting from large breasts.
Large breasts that are not firm can lead to the following issues:
- Neck, shoulder, and back pain due to the excessive weight of large breasts.
- Bone-related problems such as herniated discs due to the weight of large breasts.
- Reduced self-confidence due to excessively large breast size.
- Breasts that are uneven or disproportionate to the body.
- Stretch marks or irritation under the breasts.
- Ill-fitting bras due to a mismatch between breast size and bra size. These problems can result from having breasts that are both large and lacking firmness.
A beautifully proportioned breast includes:
- Balanced Upper and Lower Breasts: The ratio between the upper and lower parts of the breast should be harmonious and well-balanced.
- Sloping and Beautiful Breast Projection: The breast should have a graceful slope and beautiful projection starting from the collarbone to the nipple.
- A Curved Base: The breast’s base should exhibit a gentle curvature, resembling a droplet of water.
- Ideal Nipple Position: The appropriate nipple placement is typically at a 90-degree angle.
- Distances: The distance from the breast projection to the nipple should be approximately 16-19 cm. From the nipple to the breast’s lower edge should be around 6-7 cm to achieve a beautiful appearance.
- Semi-Circular Shape Under the Breast: The lower part of the breast should have a semi-circular shape, typically within an angle of 110-120 degrees.
- Well-Defined Cleavage: A beautiful breast often features a 3 cm separation between the two breasts.
The shape and appearance of beautiful breasts may vary depending on factors such as age, ethnicity, and culture. Beautiful breasts typically exhibit four characteristics:
- Upper and Lower Breast Proportions: The upper part of the breast, above the nipple, is slightly smaller than the lower part, below the nipple, in an approximate ratio of 45% to 55%.
- Gentle Slope of the Upper Breast: The upper part of the breast should have a subtle and slightly curving slope.
- Slight Projection of the Lower Breast: The lower part of the breast should have a modest projection.
- Upward-Pointing Nipple: The nipple should point slightly upwards at an angle of approximately 20 degrees from the horizontal line.
After understanding the various breast reduction techniques and their respective differences, it becomes apparent that the choice of technique and surgical approach depends on individual concerns. Factors such as breast size and skin elasticity determine which technique is suitable for each person. The resulting incisions may take the form of a circular incision around the areola, a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease, or an incision following the natural fold of the breast crease.
Breast Reduction Procedure Steps
There are many surgical approaches when it comes to breast reduction surgery, regarding the condition of patients’ breasts. Surgeons will examine the patient’s condition and determine the best surgical approaches as follows:
Donut Breast Lift Incision
The surgeon makes an incision around the areolas and removes a portion of the breast tissues if the patient’s breasts are slightly sagging and have areolas larger than 4 centimeters.
Lollipop Breast Lift Incision
The surgeon begins by making a 4-5 centimeter-long incision from around the areolas to the breast folds. This surgical approach is suitable for patients who have dense breast tissues. Excess skin is removed, allowing the skin to be pulled tightly. Breasts and nipples can be repositioned easily; moreover, this surgical approach allows the breasts to look more firm and lifted.
Anchor Breast Lift Incision
The surgeon begins by making an incision from around the areolas to the breast folds and another incision under the breast folds to remove excess skin. The breast tissues are readjusted around the breast fold, allowing the nipples to be repositioned more easily. This surgical approach is suitable for patients with large breasts and extreme sagging.
Each surgical approach is determined by the patient’s condition, which is wildly dependent on the size of the breast and skin elasticity. Any of the aforementioned approaches can be performed by the surgeon during the operation.
